In Grand Rapids, a woman who was accused of embezzling $1 million from a local bank has been sentenced to three years and five months in prison for her theft crime offense.
This month, Amanda R. Burns was sentenced at the low end of the guidelines for her charges.
It is reported that she had began stealing from Fifth Third Bank, which is located in Illinois, in 2004. She covered her tracks by falsifying records and also manipulating audits. In March, Burns pled guilty to the charges said that she stole as much as $10,000 at a time.
Her defense attorney asked the judge to consider keeping Burns out of prison so that she could care for her three children, but the judge felt prison was appropriate.
