Prosecutors in Sacramento say that a man is facing life imprisonment after a federal investigation of interstate drug trafficking. The man, 37 year old Keoudone Noy Phaouthoum, pled guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine this past Friday.
Phaouthoum is just one of 51 defendants that have been charged in nine related indictments that stem from a 13 month long federal investigation. The investigation took place across several states including California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Alaska and Georgia. Police say that Phaouthoum organized one of the four drug rings that federal and state investigators busted in August 2008.
On October 15, Phaouthoum is supposed to receive sentencing.
During the investigation, officers seized several pounds of methamphetamine. Ring leaders were charged with conspiring to distribute at least 15 to 22 pounds each of the narcotic. Officers also confiscated more than 15 firearms, 6 marijuana grow houses, 13,000 Ecstasy pills and a meth lab that was capable of producing 10 to 20 pounds of the drug every 24 to 48 hours.
