Woman Charged with Plotting to Murder Husband in Old Case
Although her husband was murdered 16 years ago, Cheryl L. Jenkins Gasper will be sent to jail for 18 years for plotting to kill him. Judge Larry M. Himelein of the Cattaraugus County Court sentenced Gasper to 18 years to life for planning his particularly brutal death, which involved her former boyfriend, Randall Knight.
The two arranged for Knight to meet Gasper's husband behind a plaza and then stab him. Knight was arrested in 1995 and stood trial; however, he was acquitted of all charges despite Cheryl Gasper's testimony.
A Cold Case Unit along with the FBI decided to re-examine the case along with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office. They interviewed Gasper again whose information led to Knight's arrest. Now 56, Knight told the authorities that he and Gasper had had an affair in Texas, and had plotted to kill her husband when they moved back to Cattaraugus County.
Knight was arrested again and later sentenced to 22 years in prison.
