17 Year Old Faces Assault with a Deadly Weapon Charges
A case of accidental high school violence leaves a young man charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
A 17-year-old boy had a gun in his possession at a Los Angeles high school when it accidentally fired, hitting and injuring two classmates. Although he was initially expected to be charged with attempted murder, it now looks like he will face the lesser charge. However, prosecutors with the Los Angeles office have not made an official statement yet as to how they will charge the boy or whether he will be charged as an adult.
The weapon was being stored in his backpack when it discharged a round of bullets, striking a boy and girl, both 15 years old south of downtown Los Angeles. The girl has been listed in critical condition as one of the bullets struck her in the head, while the boy is in serious condition after being hit in the neck.
Police believe that the boy was carrying a gun to school because he had recently become the victim of bullying and abuse.
