Man Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Girl on Bus

The man responsible for sexually assaulting a young girl on a bus was finally convicted last week in Orange County.

Herath Permarathne, 55, was found guilty on one count of assaulting an unnamed teenage girl on a bus in Orange County on October 25, 2010. A surveillance video identified him as the man in question after the girl complained about him to the father of her boyfriend. The girl later told police that even though she ignored his attempt at conversation at the bus stop, he followed her onto the bus, sat next to her and attempted to fondle her legs and groin area.

Permaranthe was given three year probation after serving 180 days in jail, as well as being added to a mandatory sex offender registration list.
