Child Abuse and Murder Reported in Los Angeles
A heartbreaking story of child abuse surfaced this week as officers with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigated the murder of a two-year-old girl.
The little girl was brought to a hospital in Long Beach with multiple injuries last week. When doctors examined her, the injuries were of such a nature as to raise questions about the parents' conduct.
Officers were brought in to examine the girl and speak to the parents just before the little girl was taken off life support. The initial findings of their investigation show that the toddler was injured at her home in Brentwood on July 2nd, but paramedics were not called until the following day. At that point, the child was in cardiac arrest and could only be stabilized temporarily.
Although these findings will not be finalized until the coroner has concluded an autopsy, the mother has already been taken into custody for the murder of her daughter and her bail has been set at $1 million. The father is also behind bars, but for the lesser charge of cruelty to a child. His bail was set this week at $500,000.
