Probation Officer Accused of Fraud
It is always shocking when a member of law enforcement is charged with a crime, as is the case with a 43-year-old probation officer in Los Angeles County.
The female probation officer was arrested after an investigation into her extracurricular activities revealed that she had defrauded the government of $135,000. Local authorities worked with the U.S. Department of Education special agents to arrest the suspect, who had used two identities to obtain the money. She reportedly used this financial aid to attend different colleges in the area. Of that amount, at least $18,000 was obtained through fraudulent measures, say local authorities.
