Drug Smugglers Caught on Coastal Waters
Thanks to the efforts of the California National Guardsmen, ten people were arrested before they could deliver a large mass of marijuana via a watercraft. Initial reports show that the suspects' boat was carrying 2,500 pounds of the illegal narcotic. When police first spotted the vehicle off the coast, they immediately had their suspicions. They called border patrol authorities who took a boat out to meet the suspects. What officers found were four people on the boat getting ready to deliver a massive amount of marijuana.
Since maritime smuggling has been on the rise over the past few years, police have stepped up their efforts to catch smugglers. This has been accomplished through land, sea, and air surveillance by a variety of law enforcement agencies. By working together, such agencies have been able to prevent a great deal of drugs from crossing the U.S. border.
While drug possession is a misdemeanor offense in California,
drug crimes like trafficking and smuggling are usually categorized as felonies. If convicted of such offenses, people may have to spend years in jail, which is why it is important that people work with a
Los Angeles criminal defense attorney if they hope to fight their charges. If you're in need of legal help throughout your drug crime case,
