How Many Superior Courts are in LA County?

One question we see asked often is how many Superior Courts are in Los Angeles County, and as criminal defense attorneys that handle cases throughout Los Angeles we can answer this question not only based on the facts but also based on experience and where we see most cases being heard. 

In total, there are 38 Superior Courts in LA County and not many people know but it’s the largest single unified trial court in the United States, according to Wikipedia and other sources. However, criminal cases aren’t spread out equally. 

Based on our experience, we see a majority of serious felony cases (murders, etc.) taking place at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Downtown Los Angeles, though we have defended charges in all LA County courthouses.
